Addidas’ Partnership with Parley for the Oceans – A Sustainable Fashion Statement

Parley for the Oceans is an organization based in New York that is comprised of several scientist, environmentalist, governments, inventors, conservationist, and other entities. These individuals have come together for a common purpose: to eradicate the world’s oceans of plastic waste.

While Parley for the Oceans seeks to destroy the pathway of plastics entering the ocean, they also look for ways to use the plastic waste that can be recovered from the oceans. One innovation that has risen is grinding the plastics up and transforming them into a material that is similar to yarn. The Bionic Yarn Company  has partnered with Parley for the Oceans and is currently producing fabrics using the plastic material recovered from oceans.

Another Parley for the  Oceans partnership was unveiled during a climate-change conference held at the United Nations on June 29th. The new partnership was with shoemaker giant Adidas. Adidas presented a world’s first to the attendees of this conference, a prototype shoe made from yarns and fabrics that came entirely from materials recovered from the ocean. The shoe even had used fishing nets woven into it!

The showcase was held to promote what types of things can be done with recovered materials from the ocean. Moreover, Adidas and Parley for the Oceans wanted to show what can be done if we, the people, put our heads together.

The shoes don’t look half bad!
